This is the Social Security child benefit that everyone forgets to benefit from

Due to the decrease in birth rate in Spain and seeking to offer financial support to families who decide to begin the adventure of parenthood, Social Security offers a Childhood Assistance Supplement (CAPI). Those families that meet the requirements and submit the application will receive a monthly payment intended to cover part of the expenses generated by the minor. In addition, this aid is compatible with other financial subsidies.

To qualify for the CAPI aid offered by Social Security, it is necessary meet a series of requirements related to the income received and the assets of the family unit. Likewise, also the age of the minors will be taken into account. However, and despite being part of the Minimum Living Income system, there’s no need have the right to apply for it, which makes it a great opportunity for thousands of Spanish households.

These are the requirements to apply for CAPI 2026

As specified by the Ministry of Inclusion on its website, those families who have minors in their care have the right to request the CAPI and “meet all the necessary requirements for the granting of the minimum vital income (IMV)“. To do this, it is necessary to reside legally and continuously in Spain for the last year, prove that you are in situation of economic vulnerability and that “the cohabitation unit has been formed for at least six months.”

However, it can also be accessed by families who do not have the right to receive the IMV due to their income level. This is because the economic caps established for the CAPI are higher. Therefore, families who have had legal residence in Spain for at least one year and have lived there continuously are eligible for this aid. the family nucleus has been formed for six months and the administrative procedures are complied with.

As for the income limit received monthly by the family nuclei, these may not exceed the 2,861.04 euros for families of an adult and a minor; 3,521.28 euros, for households made up of one adult and two minors; 4,181.52 euros, in households with two adults and two minors; and 4,841.76 euros, in groups of two adults and three minors or more.

This is the monthly amount that each family will receive depending on the age of the minors

If these requirements are met, you can qualify for a monthly help for each of the minors who reside at home. The amount will depend on age of the children or adolescents in charge for whom help is requested. The amounts established for families requesting the CAPI in 2026 are:

  • Children under 3 years: will receive 115 euros monthly for each child of this age.
  • Between 3 and 6 years: will receive 80.50 euros monthly for each child of this age.
  • Between 6 and 18 years: will receive 57.50 euros monthly for each child or adolescent of this age.

If considered eligible to receive this aid, families could receive 1,380 euros per year for each child under three years of age. Likewise, if the minors are of different ages, the amount that will be received will correspond to the sum of the figure established for each range. Therefore, if you have a one-year-old child and a four-year-old child, the household would receive 195.50 euros monthly.
