Technology seen as a risk-free source of information

Digital transformation continually scales to such a point that today we find ourselves in a context marked by cyber threats and risks that affect information and individual protection. In response, the Community of Madrid has launched a comprehensive strategy that combines awareness, prevention and training, with the aim of reinforcing digital trust and promoting responsible use of technology in daily life. This initiative is structured around three axes: the positioning of the region as a reference in cybersecurity, the promotion of accessible dissemination spaces such as the Demonstration Center and the promotion of simple habits that allow citizens to protect themselves against digital threats.

The regional government seeks to consolidate itself as a key player in the field of cybersecurity at the national and European level. For this, the Cybersecurity Agency of the Community of Madrid, dependent on the Department of Digitalizationassumes a central role in the coordination, supervision and reinforcement of the territory’s digital capabilities, guaranteeing that citizens, companies and public administrations can operate in a safe, reliable and resilient environment. According to its roadmap, the Agency works on strengthening prevention, detection and response capabilities against cyber incidents, as well as creating a collaborative ecosystem that fosters talent, entrepreneurship and public-private cooperation.

A space for citizens

According to regional reports, exposure to digital risks varies depending on age, habits and familiarity with technology. While young people face threats linked to social networks, fraud on digital platforms or identity theft, adults concentrate risks associated with economic fraud or teleworking.

For their part, those over 60 years of age are especially vulnerable to telephone scams, impersonations or fraudulent messages, with a greater emotional impact when faced with this type of incident. Therefore, through this space, the Community of Madrid seeks to transfer basic knowledge, demystify technological complexity and provide useful tools for everyday life. Likewise, it aims to generate trust and reduce the perception of vulnerability in digital environments.

Awareness without alarmism

The Department of Digitalization is committed to a model that prioritizes practical information and training so as not to resort to fear as a tool for raising awareness. The goal is for citizens to feel empowered in the face of technology, for which they will have accessible resources available that allow them to make informed decisions and navigate safely in the digital environment.

In this sense, special emphasis is placed on the prevention of common frauds, such as messages that simulate parcel shipments or banking scams, which tend to intensify during periods of high consumption. Speed of action, verification of official sources and distrust in the face of unexpected communications are presented as keys to avoiding incidents. In addition, the strategy contemplates improving the response capacity to possible attacks, encouraging reporting, the collection of evidence and immediate communication with financial entities or competent authorities.

Innovation and entrepreneurship

As a complement to the strategy, it is key to strengthen collaboration between public administrations, the private sector and the educational field, in order to build a solid and transversal cybersecurity culture.

Training from an early age and the integration of digital skills in educational programs will allow us to anticipate risks and encourage a more critical and responsible use of technology. On the other hand, the promotion of innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives in the field of cybersecurity positions Madrid as a pole of attraction for specialized talent, generating economic opportunities and qualified employment. In this sense, the creation of synergies with universities, startups and research centers is essential for the development of advanced solutions. With this initiative, the Community of Madrid is moving towards a people-centered cybersecurity model, where technology is understood as a source of information and knowledge at the service of well-being and not as an element that generates risk.
