The weather is complicated this weekend with heavy rain, storms and hail in much of Spain

The spring of 2026 in Spain is becoming one of the most unstable and contrasting in recent years, characterized not only by rain, but by episodes of unusual extreme heat followed by thermal collapses. This weekend will be the most complicated since the entry of the new station. The atmospheric instability that marked the beginning of May will reach its peak during the weekendespecially on the Mediterranean slope. José Antonio Maldonado, director of Meteorology at Meteored Spain, warns that the country is facing a weekend of very variable weather due to the interaction of a cold storm west of the Peninsula with other depressions in the Mediterranean. This scenario will leave widespread showers, snowfall at high mountain levels and temperatures that, despite the meteorological noise, will tend to rise in the east and southeast.

Alert in six communities due to the advance of a storm

Starting at 2 p.m. this Friday, the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) will activate yellow warnings in six autonomous communities: Aragon, Cantabria, Castilla y León (Burgos, Palencia and Soria), Navarra, the Basque Country (Vizcaya and Álava) and La Rioja. The risk focuses on rains that will exceed 15 liters per square meter in just one hour, although in Iberian Zaragoza the intensity could be greater, reaching 20 liters. These precipitations will be accompanied by storms with hail and strong gusts of wind

Saturday, the most critical day

Saturday’s day will be the most unstable of the week. According to Meteored, the arrival of a front associated with an Atlantic storm, added to a depression in the Mediterranean, will cause rains and storms in almost all of Spain.

The pRecipitations may be strong and accompanied by hailespecially in the southwest and the Central System, later extending to the Mediterranean. Snowfall is also expected in mountain areas above 2000 meters. Temperatures will rise in the north and southeast and in the Canary Islands cloudy skies will predominate with some light rains.

On Sunday, it improves in the east and showers in the west

On Sunday, atmospheric instability will continue due to the presence of a storm to the west of Portugal and the showers will be concentrated mainly in the western half of the peninsula, where they could be locally strong.

In contrast, in the Levante area and in the Balearic Islands, slightly cloudy skies will predominate and a rise in temperatures will be recorded. ANDIn the northwest, thermal declines are expected, while in the rest of the country no major changes are expected.
