These are the communities most affected by the return of bad weather

The summer mirage that has dominated the center of the week will begin to crack, although in a very uneven way on the peninsular map.

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has updated its prediction for next Saturday, April 18, 2026 and the forecast draws a Spain split in two climatic halves.

While the regions bathed by the Mediterranean and the southwestern quadrant will remain under the umbrella protector of high pressures, a pocket of cold air at altitude will trigger an episode of instability that will have as its epicenter the main mountain ranges and the broad expanse of the northern plateau.

The state organization details that the sky of the interior of the peninsula will become populated with cloudiness of diurnal evolution, the perfect breeding ground for afternoon storms of a certain magnitude to break out. The AEMET classify these phenomena as “locally strong” and places them geographically on the Central System, the Iberian System, the Pyrenean mountain range and the autonomous community of Castilla y León itself.

These stormy nuclei will be accompanied by heavy rainfall; The agency highlights that there is an added probability that they will discharge hail and generate very strong gusts of wind associated with the downward currents of the storm clouds themselves.

A sheltered south and the Canary Islands under the Saharan dust

The other side of the meteorological coin will be experienced by the communities located to the south of the Central System and the entire eastern façade of the peninsula, including Balearics.

In these areas, the prediction confirms that the skies will remain slightly cloudy either clearwith temperatures that will hardly experience significant variations compared to the previous days.

The maximums will remain stable in most of the territory, with the sole exception of Galiciawhere a ascentand from inside the Basque Country, Cantabria and the north of Burgoswhere the thermometers will begin a slight decline. The minimums, for their part, will experience a rise widespread.

Regarding the Canary archipelago, the day will be marked by two phenomena featured. First, the intrusion of haze coming from the east, which will end up affecting all of the islands and will dye the skies a characteristic ocher tone.

Secondly, the wind from the south and east it will blow with moderate intensity, but very strong gusts are expected specifically in the high areas of the island of Tenerife, a warning to take into account for those planning mountain activities.

Temperatures in the western islands will rise remarkableadding heat to the environment already loaded with suspended dust.
