In 2024, Apple announced its commitment to AI, Apple Intelligenceof which a Siri renewed, which later reached users in a very phased manner and only partially. The updated version of Siri will be more capable than now of controlling other applications and functions of iOS and macOSas well as complete tasks requested by the user using their personal data collected from emails, messages and notes. It will also be better at summarizing the daily news of AppleNews and can offer ‘more detailed answers obtained from the web, including summaries, bullets and images’according to Gurman, to better compete with other AI-powered search tools, including Perplexity and Google Gemini.
Siri recovers the independent app format
Another novelty noted by Bloomberg is that, although Siri will continue to be accessible through voice commands or using the iPhone’s power button, Apple is testing a dedicated Siri app that will be available on several of your devices. The application will help provide Siri with Improved conversational capabilities through a chat-like formatwith an appearance similar to the interface of Messages from Apple. The app will offer users a dedicated space to find their previous interactions with Siri, search past chats, start new conversations, switch between voice and text modes, and upload documents and photos for analysis.
Apple is testing several possible new designs for Siriincluding placing the assistant at the top of the computer screen iPhonein the Dynamic Islandshowing when the message is activated ‘Search or ask’. Once the results are ready, The Siri interface will expand into a larger translucent panel that can be expanded further to continue a conversation or ask additional questions.
Curiously, it will not be the first time that Siri is available as a standalone app in the App Store. It already was between February 2010 and October 2011. In that interval, Apple bought the company behind it, Siri Inc.and made Siri part of iOS, launching it with the iPhone 4S after removing the application from the App Store.
The company is also working to expand the capabilities of its search system. spotlightreplacing it with Siri, so that it has access to more types of data, while integrated applications will incorporate a ‘Ask Siri’ in the menus, which will make it easier for users ‘request more information about the highlighted text or retrieve related emails’.
