Other candidates will “fight” in Madrid and Valencia

The PSOE is a party «inwait». Not only does it wait for 2027, which is when the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, plans to submit to the verdict of the polls. He also “expects” more “gestures of rebellion” towards the federal leadership.

The emerging critical sector is willing to plant battle in Madrid and Valencia, where they want to force primaries to elect an alternative candidate to those designated by the general secretary. Sánchez planned the landings of ministers Óscar López and Diana Morant. But, as this newspaper has learned, both have doubts about the viability of their respective candidacies.

What’s more, government sources point out that Minister López, a rival of Isabel Díaz Ayuso, is “unmotivated» and in recent months he has had major disagreements with Sánchez regarding the electoral strategy.

The incipient critical sector sees with hope the situation in Extremadura, where the official candidate was “killed” and where now the names of the candidates are piling up to undergo some tests. primaries: the provincial secretary of Cáceres, Álvaro Sánchez Cotrina; the former president of the Extremadura Parliament, Blanca Martín, from the same province, and Soraya Vega, former spokesperson for the party in the regional Parliament.

The Extremaduran socialists do not want a hypothetical electoral repetition to catch them on the wrong foot and are accelerating their process of renewal. In the same way, critics of the PSOE received as another sign of internal opposition that the leader of the Castilian and Leonese socialists, Carlos Martínez, offered the PP a pact to let the most voted list govern.

“Now the next fights will be in Madrid and Valencia,” says a critic of the party. In the Community of Madrid the situation is «complicated». Minister López landed directly from Moncloa after the federal leadership won the fight against Juan Lobato.

The current regional senator was branded a traitor in Moncloa for going to a notary’s office and attesting that he did not receive the leak of personal data of Díaz Ayuso’s partner, which ended up being a crime of revealing secrets for which Álvaro García Ortiz, then attorney general of the State, was convicted. Lobato has been in “mode” for monthsCampaign». Their goal is to face each other in a primary with López. And return to his throne.

In the PSOE and in the federations, primaries to elect a regional candidate are the planned system, but in practice they are only held if there is more than one candidate with sufficient endorsements. That is, there is no formal mechanism by which militancy can force them directly, so the only real way is for a critical sector to promote an alternative candidacy, gather the minimum percentage of support required and break the consensus. internal.

If that happens, voting among members is mandatory, but if there is only one candidate validated by the management, he or she is proclaimed without competing. And that is, in fact, what it is trying to do. Cub.

Something similar is happening in the Valencian Community, where the poor prospects of the head of Science, Diana Morant, are rekindling the fire internal. Precisely, internal elections had to be held there, but Sánchez, through the former organizational secretary Santos Cerdán, imposed Morant and eliminated any attempt at confrontation.

But that move by Ferraz only strained Morant’s relationship with the president of the party in the province of Valencia, Carlos Fernández Bielsa, who recently renewed his position against Robert Raga, candidate of the “apparatus.” Bielsa’s influence is on the rise. And that of Morant, incapable of making profitable the political crisis of the dana, clearly decline.

Sánchez’s main obsession is to control the regional leaderships, because the “most likely” thing, according to critics, is that the socialist leader will try to remain at the head of the party even if he has to pack his bags in 2027.

And for that, it is necessary to organically control each territory. But there is another logic, if he prevents “strangers” from achieving territorial power, the leader guarantees that no one can challenge him in the future. Sánchez demonstrated with the promotion of Minister Carlos Body to the vice presidency that he is relentless and that he is not going to foster an alternative leadership in the party. Corporal, a technocrat who lacks a militant card, does not pose a direct threat.

But in the PSOE there are those who see him as an “alternative” sensible». And, when the time comes, he will pressure the Minister of Economy to get involved. It doesn’t seem to be in your calculations. But as a socialist source seasoned in a thousand battles points out, “the time will come when a Sanchista will betray his father.” And that, he says, “will happen when thousands of officials have to collect their things from the Moncloa offices.” For now, the party only thinks about the battle in Andalusia.

The elections on May 17 are seen in Moncloa as a preview of the generalsince María Jesús Montero is the closest thing to Sánchez and Juanma Moreno to Feijóo. The Andalusian socialists maneuver so that Moncloa does not design the entire campaign. Spirit is low. The prospects are bad. But Sánchez only thinks about him.
