Polar invasion on Palm Sunday
According to Meteored, this warning scenario is just the prelude to a drastic change that will coincide with the beginning of the Easter week. The weather models analyzed by Meteored confirm that the Palm Sunday An “unexpected guest” will arrive: a pocket of very cold air that will descend over the eastern peninsula and the Balearic Islands.
This polar air mass will cause ttemperatures at about 5,500 meters above sea level drop to -35 ºC, records that the meteorological portal describes as more typical of midwinter than the end of March.
As a consequence of this icy invasion, the atmosphere in the Palm Sunday processions will be purely winter in much of the country. Meteored information indicates that Cities such as Ávila, Burgos, León, Segovia or Soria may not even reach the maximum temperature of 10ºC, with minimum temperatures that will wake up below 0ºC..
Furthermore, the level of snow could fall below 600 meters on the Cantabrian slope and Navarra, which will force extreme caution on the roads.
Precipitation will be quite likely in these northern areas. Meteored warns that the evolution of the rains will depend on the exact position of this cold core.
Depending on where you go, the precipitation could extend to the rest of the Iberian system, the south of Aragon, the east of Castilla-La Mancha, the south of the Valencian Community, the Region of Murcia and the east of Andalusia.
However, if the drop is close to Balearicsintense downpours and storms will occur on the islands, which could also touch the coasts of Eastern Andalusia.
