In a market where Garmin, Coros and Suunto compete for supremacy, Amazfit, quietly and silently, is attracting an important part of the public thanks to the always sought-after combination of price and features.
If you are looking for a watch with character, that not only follows you in your workouts, but also holds up in rain, sun, mud and endless walks, the Amazfit T-Rex 3 Pro deserves a good look. It is not a simple “bracelet gadget”: it is a watch designed for adventure, demanding sports and exploration.
The T-Rex 3 Pro has a military focus: reinforced casing, durable materials and a construction designed to resist. It has resistance certifications for shocks, dust and extreme conditions of temperature (40 degrees below zero) and humidity (submersible up to 45 meters). In fact, its appearance is striking.it is not a discreet watch: it has presence, with very large buttons and a structure that transmits “resistance”.
And in this section, that of discretion, there are two sizes to choose from: 48 mm vs 44 mm. The first has a larger screen, which improves the visibility of data such as maps, routes or metrics in training. It is ideal for those who have large wrists, or simply prefer information to be more readable without pressing buttons.
The T-Rex 3 Pro 44 mm, meanwhile, is more compact, lighter and comfortable for more agile training or for people with smaller wrists. If you’re not going to rely on the watch for very large maps or need a larger readout, this variant retains almost all of the important features in a more manageable format.
Both versions maintain the adventurous spirit of the T-Rex: hard materials, good grip and physical buttons to operate even with sweaty hands or gloves. One of the strongest points of the T-Rex 3 Pro is, without a doubt, its battery. Up to 28 days of typical use and 70 hours in full GPS mode. This is especially attractive if you are going on long routes, hiking or ultramarathons: you will not have to charge the watch every so often. And if it has to be done, in just over an hour, we are ready.
Along with the battery, it is also logical to demand good navigation. And the T-Rex 3 Pro offers loaded topographic maps, letting you see routes, trails or points of interest right on the screen. In the 48 mm, these routes look better, why fool ourselves. In addition, with the physical buttons we can navigate the map without depending exclusively on the touch screen, which is ideal if you are sweating or wearing gloves.
The possibility of tracing routes, return to the starting point (“back to start”) and follow planned trajectories It is an advantage for those who move in non-urban or less signposted environments.
But the T-Rex 3 Pro It does not seek to be just a map on the wrist: it is also a very complete sports watch. It has 180 different sport modes (since having 100 seems like an exaggeration to me, personally I would put this as a downloadable option and limit myself to 30 sports installed by default). Interesting, yes, that it includes ski maps.
Also, in the health section, it incorporates a heart rate monitor, measurement of blood oxygen (SpO2), heart rate monitoring, metrics such as training load, estimated VO2max, recovery time.
The speaker and microphone deserve special mention. Taking into account that it is not a smart watch intended to connect to the mobile phone and “accompany us” in the gym, but rather to take an active role in sports, calls are heard and transmitted with very good quality. And yes, notable advantage: it has space to store music.
The Amazfit (Zepp) interface is quite complete and Compatible with most maps, routes, alerts and “social sports” applications, like Strava. Thanks to its physical buttons, it is very operational, even with wet hands, gloves or in difficult conditions.
48 or 44mm? The biggest difference here is the size. If the use we will give it, for sports, is daily and we need to see the maps clearly because we move in urban environments or we are going to have it exclusively as a sports watch, the 48 is the best option, despite being slightly heavier (52 versus 46 grams, without strap). For daily and “mixed” use (sports and social life) the 44 mm is more discreet, lighter and with the same features. The price is the same: €399.
Verdict: The Amazfit T-Rex 3 Pro is one of Amazfit’s strongest bets for those who do not want a delicate watch but rather a battle companion. If battery, resistance and visibility are non-negotiable, it is one of the best choices.
