A newly discovered comet, provisionally baptized as “Swan25b”the astronomical community surprised by revealing a light tail that extends almost four times the apparent diameter of the Moonthe Caribbean Astronomy Society (SAC)
“He had not been detected before because he was approaching the sun on the back of this, so that no telescope had captured it,” the entity explained in written statements.
The new comet was captured in recent days by instruments of the Solar and heliospheric observatory (Soho)a space probe that studies the Sun.
The SAC clarified that, because the comet traveled near the sun, it is still uncertain if it will disintegrate or if it will remain intact. By such a bowl, it is unknown if your brilliance will increase or decrease.
“The only way to know will be observing and photographing it during the next sunsets”the scientific organization indicated.
According to SAC, although Swan25B is not visible to the naked eye, some observers have sighted it through binocular and photos of several second seconds.
The educational entity added that preliminary data suggest that the celestial body will have its greatest approach to Earth between the middle and end of October.
In fact, the SAC said that, From Puerto Rico, you can try to obtain images between 7:15 pm and 7:30 pm in the direction of the west horizon, since it will be located near where the Spica star and the planet Mars are observed.
The comet was discovered between September 11 and 12 by Vladimir Bezugly, a Ukrainian fan who noticed the object while analyzing online images obtained by an instrument.
Comets are celestial celestial bodies to asteroids (space rocks), but with a dust and ice cover.
When they feel the heat of the sun, the ice changes from solid to gaseous, forming the peculiar tail that characterizes them, the SAC explained.
