Last super moon of 2024 can be seen from Puerto Rico during Thursday night

Thursday night and early Friday morning will be the opportunity to see the last super moon of 2024, which can be observed with the naked eye from any point in Puerto Rico starting at 6:12 p.m.reported this Wednesday the Astronomical Society of Puerto Rico (SAPR).

The phenomenon occurs, the non-profit organization explained, when our planet’s only natural satellite is positioned a little closer than usual to Earth during perigee (full moon phase)an event that can occur several times in a single year and can be distinguished by the brightness and size of the moon.

“Tomorrow, Thursday, we will not only have a super full moon, but also what is known as the hunter’s moon“, a name given by some farmers around the world since it is the time of year in which the fields are finished mowing and it is easier for them to hunt animals under the light of the Moon,” he explained. Juan Villafañe, SAPR advisororganization endorsed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (POT).

Villafañe added that the phenomenon has become popular in recent decades for being a special event in which the Moon can be seen in its maximum size and brilliance.

“What will happen tomorrow, Thursday, is that the Moon will look 14% larger and 30% brighter than normal because it will be a little closer to the Earth”he pointed out.

The SAPR invited all astronomy fans to photograph the event and share the images through the organization’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/saprinc.
