He Circular Repowering Programcarried out by the ministry of Teresa Ribera and financed with more than 185 million euros from the European funds Next Generation EU, aims renew and improve the wind farm existing in our country.
Thus, MITECO has announced, among other measures, the replacement of up to 1,205 old wind turbines with only 167. However, these new wind turbines will be state-of-the-art and capable of doubling the energy generated by the previous ones.
This is an action that seeks to provide the sector with a greater energy efficiency and reduce its environmental impactsince these new technologies will only increase the energy used by 8% – reaching 850 MW.
This replacement exercise is part of one of the lines of the ministry’s program that seeks anticipate circular economy solutions and that, according to the calculations of the successful bidders, will generate more than 6,800 jobs (2,831 direct and the rest indirect), most of them related to Just Transition and Demographic Challenge zones.
The other two lines seek to launch the first plants for the treatment and recycling of blades and parts of wind turbines and modernize and improve the facilities up to 10 megawatts.
In the latter case, they will be distributed More than 24 million in aid aimed at modernizing equipment and infrastructure, totalling, according to forecasts, 256 megawatts of generation and 11 megawatt hours of storage.
In the case of treatment plants, the program plans to start investing in Innovative solutions for recycling and valorising wind turbine components.
With an eye on the future
All this Circular Repowering Plan It is on the same path as the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan 2021-2030 in Spain – revised in 2023 – which sets the course to follow in this decade in which we find ourselves.
In turn, it is also aligned with the Strategic Projects for Economic Recovery and Transformation (PERTE – EC) of the Circular Economy strategy and the PERTE for Renewable Energies, Renewable Hydrogen and Storage.
