The United States is allegedly investigating Microsoft for acting as a monopoly

According to a source cited by the media, the FTC sent a letter to Microsoft demanding information to advance the case.

Neither the agency nor the company have made public comments about the investigation. For now, CNN has also not specified the accusations made by the FTC or the Microsoft products that could be affected.

Microsoft has faced antitrust concerns in the past. This year, the European Union (EU) considered opening a formal investigation into his million-dollar association with OpenAIalthough the process did not materialize.

The news comes a few weeks after the president-elect of the United States, donald trumptake office in January 2025.

Although he has not yet announced who will lead the FTC under his administration, it is very possible that he will replace the agency’s current chair, Lina Khan, appointed by the outgoing president, Joe Biden.

With the arrival of the new team, ongoing investigations could be shelved.
