Two years after the Universities Law (LOSU) was approved, the rule returns to Congress to suffer new touch -ups in a new pulse against the private university. After the controversy weeks ago by the decree that regulates new demands for the creation of private campuses, which the Government calls “beach bar, yesterday an initiative of the PSOE reached in which you want to modify article 9.5 of the LOSU in what is another twist against the private ones. The Congress supported 177 votes in favor and 168 against the socialist initiative so that no university is public or private, has to pay companies, institutions, hospitals, foundations or organizations to be guaranteed that their students can do external academic practices. It would be thus ensuring that all students are in equal opportunities regardless of the university that have chosen to train and ensure the formative and non -profit nature.
The socialist spokesman, Roberto García Morís, took advantage of his speech to attack against the “devastating”, “lethal” policy, of “price increase and hardening of requirements for PP scholarships.” And, specifically, he told Andalusia and Madrid as an example of “public fund cuts” with a university policy understood as “business.”
Some arguments that were quickly answered by Joaquín Robles (Vox), who described the defense of the socialist spokesman’s initiative as «pure demagogic rhetoric against the private university. It is intended to tighten the rope in the neck of the private ones and you want to reduce your market niche. It bothers him that they grow and intend to create a new ideological enemy (…) violate freedom of teaching and business, ”he said bluntly. The popular attacked the initiative with similar arguments. His spokesman, Pedro Navarro, justified that the private ones have to pay to do practices. Especially in some provinces with 98% SMEs. “The Diputación de Palencia have to pay companies to admit students to do practices because there is not enough business fabric and that happens in many provinces.” Moreover, he put the case of the Complutense University that “he has to pay the Royal Academy of Engineering 20,000 euros so that they welcome women’s students so that there are more scientific vocations in companies and, with this proposal, it would be illegal.” The popular believe that it is the “nth attack on the freedom of the PSOE. Junts was also critical of the initiative. Not only considers that it is an “over -regulation,” but also believes that there is an invasion of competences. “Any regulation that we have to do with external university practices and we will do it.”
Add, supported the PSOE by stating that “we cannot allow the public university to compete at a disadvantage against a model that commercializes training,” in line with the rest of the groups.
