The PP will take Sánchez’s “lawfare” to the European “bench”

For Pedro Sánchez There are judges who “They do politics”. An accusation that obeys the investigations that affect two people from their most intimate environment: his wife, Begoña Gómezand his brother, David Sánchez. The president of the Government, when corruption squeezes him more than ever, is openly paid to the thesis of the “Lawfare” and the Popular Party points to Brussels, where European institutions have spoken on more than one occasion against the attacks of the Executive to Justice.

Alberto Núñez Feijóo It took little to denounce the words pronounced by his rival on public television. “Disqualifying judges investigating their own” is not a “democratic anomaly. It is already – he wrote in capital letters in a message in his X account – A danger to Spain ».

In the popular dome, as the reason has been able to know, they already study an offensive in European institutions to put the president of the Government in a brete. «He said that in our country there is ‘Lawfare’. Europe will take note of it. Is Very serious that Pedro Sánchez says that the judges of our country chase people for political motivations, ”they emphasize in the Galician Politburo. “It is also that when they mention the accusations of his wife and his brother,” they bet.

Sánchez’s stellar reappearance at the start of the course, last Monday, has caused a stir in Spanish politics. His first interview after almost a year without attending to any media left a reguero of headlines that yesterday marked the agenda. But the most striking of all was the one with whom he shot at the magistrates who have their relatives in the pillory and the State Attorney General for various crimes.

According to Miguel Telladonumber two of the PP, the chief of the Executive was “very denied” and resorted to the same as always: “Victimize to justify the situation you are living”. In an interview on the public radio, he reproached that “seeing the chief of the Executive question the work of the Judiciary and its independence and professionalism is unfortunate.”

Meanwhile, the parliamentary spokeswoman, Ester Muñozironized that Sánchez only considers that they prevail “those judges who investigate him, his family to his party or his government” and summoned him, “if he has evidence that there are judges” who do not comply with the law, to file a complaint. A chart of criticism that will be accompanied by concrete facts. The PP seeks the nth European pronouncement.

As they remember from Genoa, repeatedly the community executive has spoken against the attacks of the Spanish government to the judiciary. The popular cite three concrete examples. The first, in July 2024, when the commission «warned Your report on the rule of law in Spain that these attacks can damage the fundamental confidence of society in the judges and their sentences ».

And they paraphrase the highlight of that document: «While the courts are not immune to criticism and scrutiny, the public’s confidence in the judiciary is essential for its effectiveness, in view of their special role in society (…). The deterioration of such trust is especially important in relation to the statements of the members of the legislative and executive powers ».

Later, in March 2025, the PP remembers that «The European Commission had to launch a new warning to Pedro Sánchez, in an answer to a parliamentary question »that the Spanish delegation asked in the Eurocamara. Then, “he stressed that the Judiciary must enjoy public confidence to carry out their work correctly and that governments must strengthen the confidence of citizens in constitutional institutions, including the Judiciary.”

According to the PP, “it was a new European varapalo to the management of the government of Sánchez, which continues to accumulate criticism for its lack of respect for judicial independence and the rule of law.”

Finally, the formation recalls, in July 2025 the Commission published the latest report on the rule of law in our country and stressed again the attacks on the judges: «All state agencies (whether of the Legislative, Executive or Judicial Power) They must be governed by the slogan of mutual respect to ensure the proper functioning of constitutional institutions and protect the confidence of citizenship in these ».

Before the verbal escalation against the judges, the PP looks in Europe. There will be a complaint with the commission and, in addition, the party has reported foreign correspondents. A maneuver that arrives when Sánchez’s international image is going through his worst moment.
