The PP seeks the leap with the amnesty and Begoña Gómez

The procedural situation of the wife of the President of the Government, Begoña Gómez, bursts into the European campaign, which deals a blow to the script designed in Moncloa and which until now had served the team of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, to improve their expectations about the result at the polls.

Tomorrow the amnesty will also come into play with its final vote in Congress to send it to the Official State Gazette (BOE), so that it comes into force. The socialists not only consider it amortized in the climate of national opinion, but they boast, officially, that it can favor them in the European elections after the result in Catalonia.

On the contrary, the analysis carried out by the PP indicates that there are two factors that work in its favor and that will correct the reduction in distance between the two parties that the surveys carried out have predicted when the Moncloa script had managed to focus all the attention on the foreign policy, whether the crisis with Argentina or with Israel over the recognition of the Palestinian State.

Yesterday the PP managed to focus on the fact that the President of the Government already knew that his wife had “the status of being investigated” when he published the letter in which he threatened to resign, while the judge in the case announced that he has opened an investigation to find out who leaked The country the UCO report that exonerated Begoña Gómez: the magistrate sees an alleged crime of revealing secrets.

Whatever the judicial procedure opened against Sánchez's wife ends, the campaign becomes even more mired in a context in which both socialists and popular supporters were playing with their respective expectations to try to influence the climate of opinion and their electorate.

Cuca Gamarra accuses Sánchez of hiding his wife's status under investigation

The general secretary of the PP, Cuca Gamarra, appeared in the middle of the afternoon to accuse Sánchez of castlening in Moncloa after causing an unprecedented institutional crisis, stopping the country for five days, when he already knew that his wife was charged.

Today the PP will announce the date on which it summons the President of the Government in the Senate to testify in the investigation commission on the “Koldo case” and its derivatives. This reaction responds to the headline that the President of the Government threatened to resign when hours before Begoña Gómez's lawyer had already sent a letter to the judge in which he admitted that she was under investigation and asked to appear in the case.

Article 24.2 of the Spanish Constitution establishes that all people have the right to defense and legal assistance when informed of the accusation made against them, to a public trial without undue delay and with all guarantees, to use the means of proof. pertinent for their defense, not to testify against themselves, not to confess guilt and to the presumption of innocence.

When a person is accused of a crime, and a judge admits the complaint against him to be processed with the decision to open preliminary proceedings, as has happened in the case of Begoña Gómez, he has the right to defend himself and can only do so if it is declared investigated.

This explains why Judge Juan Carlos Peinado considered the wife of the President of the Government as such from the moment he accepted the complaint filed by the Manos Liminas union for processing.

In any case, we are in the middle of the electoral campaign and the popular leadership believes that Begoña Gómez and the amnesty will mark a turning point and will leave Sánchez without control of the day-to-day agenda.

It should be noted that the socialists are playing this game with the “card” of encouraging their expectations to rise, as a mechanism with which they believe they can further improve the mobilization of their electorate, which is the one that is least active.

The PP, on the contrary, has begun to lower them, in a maneuver of possible distraction since in the electoral “plumbing” of Genoa they trust that the issues that they govern in the final stretch of the battle for the vote will benefit them more than to the socialists. Basically, what they are doing is taking note of previous errors and trying to turn against the PSOE the feeling they are generating that they have the possibility of a tie with the PP within their reach. In elections, by the way, in which it was presumed that Alberto Núñez Feijóo was in a position to make a very wide difference over Sánchez, and understanding the result as a revalidation of the past general elections or as a plebiscite on the two leaderships.

Within this confrontation between socialists and popular ones, it must be taken into account that the recognition of the State of Palestine that has been harmed is Sumar, since he is expected to act in favor of the concentration of the vote in the acronym of the PSOE.

Before the impact of the evolution of the Begoña Gómez case and the effect of the final approval of the amnesty is measured, the difference between PP and PSOE, according to the data from Génova, ranged between 3-4 points, which In general terms, as the popular leadership emphasizes, “it would be enough to give the government to Feijóo” – the surveys have also perceived this adjustment of the distance between the two parties.

By the way, Génova yesterday denied having handled internal information about the procedure opened to Begoña Gómez prior to the secrecy of the summary being lifted and the judge's order being known: a defensive clarification, after from the left they pointed in that direction by the “opportunity” of the questions that the head of the opposition posed to Sánchez in the Plenary Session of Congress last week.
