The Halloween horror franchise announces two video games directed by John Carpenter

There are many film franchises that have jumped into the world of video games – and vice versa – but in the case of ‘Halloween’, the projects related to the horror series are limited to a couple of appearances without too much relevance of its protagonist and an original from the period. A situation that is apparently being corrected. Apparently, the saga is now ready to break into the world of electronic entertainment, but not with just one title in development, but with two.

Halloween X 2

Both projects are being produced by the director of the original features, John Carpenter, in collaboration with the studio Boss Teamresponsible for bringing the game to the public ‘Evil Dead: The Video Game‘. At least one of them will be developed in Unreal Engine 5 and the director says he is excited about the new possibility of bringing Michael Myers to the segment with new original adaptations.

“I’m a huge gamer and I’m excited to bring Michael Myers back to life in these games, and I want to scare you,” says the director, who is “intimately involved” in the development of the projects, an element that ensures a high degree of fidelity to the film franchise and, who knows, even direct connections to its future. According to Boss Studios, the video games will take players to “iconic” moments from throughout the franchise, as well as taking advantage of the figure of several classic characters that will be controlled by the audience.

Michael Myers in the world of video games

However, despite the announcement, both titles are in the early stages of developmentwith no release date or target platforms. It is important to note that Michael Myers’ career in the world of video games stems from ‘Halloween’, Released for Atari in 1983. Since then, its most important figure has appeared as a guest character in games such as ‘Dead by Daylight‘ and even ‘Call of Duty: Ghosts‘.

The most playful Carpenter

Over the last few years John Carpenter has been completely involved in the video game sector and currently, in addition to the two titles derived from the ‘Halloween’ franchise, he is also involved in another project called ‘Toxic Commando‘. This is a team shooter which is set within a new universe created by the famous director and screenwriter. At the moment, not many details are known about this production, but Focus Entertainment and the studio Saber Interactive promise a cooperative multiplayer title with a first-person perspective.

John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando

In the case of ‘Toxic Commando’, the title is the director’s first work in the sector: “It’s exciting to work on the new game. Look, I really like shooting zombies. They keep telling me that they call themselves ‘infected’… Please. They are creatures, man. They explode really well and there are so many of them. People are going to love this game,” said Carpenter at his presentation.

If we look at the information provided by the developer itself, the title will combine several elements of action-horror films from the 80s and will feature intense combat against hordes of creatures. This will be done through squads in vehicles or on foot, with a huge arsenal of firearms, grenades, special abilities and even objects such as swords or katanas at the users’ disposal.

The Toxic Commandos

The story is set in the near future, with humanity collapsing after attempting to use the Earth’s core as a power source. As a result, an ancient god awakens and begins to destroy the planet. As you can imagine, such a threat can only be stopped by a group of unclassifiable mercenaries: “The Toxic Commandos” that give the game its name.

In addition to horror and promising action sequences, the production reveals a certain graphical power, since the engine that will run the game is the Swarm Engine, the same one used with very good results in ‘World War Z: Aftermath’ and ‘Space Marine 2’, which is part of the ‘Warhammer 40,000’ franchise. Without official release dates set, we can only safely anticipate that ‘Toxic Commando’ will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
