It was his best friend and administrator of his assets for years, but the ambition pushed him to cheat and keep the savings of a lifetime of his intimate and client. On the night of the month of September 2011, the woman and children of Rogelio Rengel showed up at the house of Luis del Olmo and gave him the worst news of his life. Rogelio had cheated him staying with almost fifteen million euros, the savings of the entire professional career of the popular and admired communicator.
At that time it was estimated that the offender had stolen the seventy -five percent of the journalist’s current accounts. Del Olmo blindly trusted rengel and left in his hands everything related to his income and businesses. And he didn’t stop reading the documents that his friend took him to sign them, so he took advantage of the situation to keep his money. Some time later it was discovered that he used it to cover the huge losses of the magazine “Don Balón”, of which the editor was.
Multimillionaire fraud
I was able to talk to Luis del Olmo months after learning about betrayal and transmitted a very low mood. «I fully trusted that man, he is even the godfather of one of my grandchildren. I have destroyed my life, all the work of decades, the money he had saved has blurred. You can imagine how I feel right now. I find it hard to believe that Rogelio has betrayed me in such a crawling way ».
Rengel had scammed other common friends and, for more inri, he rehipotecated his own home behind his family, leaving her, also in a bad economic situation. An unprecedented scandal that ended in court. In December 2016, the trial that faced the two parties began. Rengel was charged with crimes of improper appropriation, scam and falseing of accounts. The defendant only acknowledged having scammed from Olmo 3,700,000 euros, but in the process it was demonstrated that, between 2005 and 2011, he had stolen from the accounts of the communicator almost fifteen million euros. LThe sentence was overwhelming: ten years and six months in jail and compensation of more than fifteen million for scams.
