Spain prepares for a stifling June start, with temperatures that will rise remarkably as of Thursday and will reach between 35 and 40 degrees over the weekend, especially in the central and southern peninsular, and to a lesser extent in the Northeast. They will be “values between 5 and 10 degrees above the usual for this time of the year,” said Rubén del Campo, spokesman for the Meteorology Agency (Aemet).
During Thursday and Friday, time will be stable in almost the entire country. It will only rain in points of Galicia and the Cantabrian, with some storm in mountain areas of the North and the East. Although these chaparrons will be generally scattered, as always in this type of phenomena, they could be locally intense.
In both days, maximum temperatures will increase, exceeding 30-32 degrees in the northeast, Mallorca, center zone and half south. In points of Castilla-La Mancha and in the Guadalquivir Valley. They could even reach 34 to 36 degrees.
Intense heat weekend
Facing the weekend, the heat will intensify. On Saturday it will be hot and with stable time in almost all of Spain, except in the Cantabrian, where a front will leave cloudy skies, rains and with fresh atmosphere, with maximums between 18 and 20 degrees. In the rest of the country, the sun will shine and the 34 degrees in the depression of the Ebro and in the southern half will be exceeded on Saturday.
That day, in the south of the Valencian Community, Castilla-La Mancha, in the Region of Murcia and in large areas of Andalusia they will be reached or exceeded 35 degreesfavoring maximums between 5 and 10 degrees above normal.
On Sunday, temperatures will descend in the east peninsular, but will continue to rise through the west and 35 degrees will be exceeded in a generalized way in most of the southern half. In the Guadalquivir Valley, the 40 degrees in cities such as Córdoba or Seville.
What will summer 2025 be
With the entrance of the meteorological summer, which includes the months of June, July and August, the AEMET anticipates a station marked by temperatures higher than usual throughout the country.
According to its seasonal forecast, there is a 70% chance that this summer quarter is warmer than usual in the Peninsular Mediterranean facade, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands. For the rest of the country, that probability is around 60%. As for rainfall, the Aemet does not observe a clear trend.
