Spring will take a respite this Saturday. The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has confirmed in its latest prediction a very atmospheric scenario. adverse that will return the fully winter atmosphere to a good part of the Spanish territory in a matter of hours.
The passage of a front associated with a cold air mass will cause a decrease abrupt and generalized of maximum temperatures, which in areas of the central north and northwest will reach levels classified by the organization itself as “extraordinary”.
The mercury will plummet between 10 and 12 degrees with respect to the values recorded in previous days, an especially marked contrast for an already advanced month of April.
The collapse of the thermometer will not be the only one setback which will leave this weather setting. According to the notice of AEMETthe combination of subtropical air in high layers with the entry of the front from the north will turn the skies gray in practically the entire Peninsula and the Balearic Islands.
They are expected widespread rainfallalthough these will be more likely in the form of stormy afternoon showers in large inland regions.
The most note unstable will be located in the southwhere the prediction warns of showers and storms with the probability of being strong in regions of Andalusia and the Central Systemwithout ruling out that these violent phenomena extend to parts of Extremadura.
These storm cores could be accompanied locally by hail, adding an added risk to the sudden change of time.
The return of snow to low levels and hurricane-force winds
Along with the cold and the rain, the third protagonist of the Saturday day will be the snow. The level will decrease progressively throughout the day until reaching the 800 or 1,000 meters in the northern third, but the most striking warning comes from the eastern Cantabrian Sea.
There, the AEMET contemplates the possibility that the flakes make their appearance at really low altitudes for the time, with a level that could fall punctually “to the 500/700 meters at the end of the day”.
The snow accumulations will be significant in the mountainous environments of the western Pyrenees and the north of the Iberian system.
In addition, the instability will be accompanied by a wind that will further complicate the thermal sensation. The agency predicts very strong gusts of snow in the Ebro valley and intense northerly winds in the Canary archipelago.
Despite the harshness of the episode in most of the country, the Canary Islands will remain at margin of thermal drop generaleven experiencing a slight rise in temperatures, although with cloudy skies on the northern slopes.
This episode of anomalous cold will, however, briefreminding the population that the April atmosphere is still as unpredictable as crude in her mood swings.
