Spain will face September 2 with a stable environment in much of the territoryalthough the distribution of temperatures and clouds will be very uneven. The Peninsula and the Balearic Islands will maintain slightly cloudy or clear skies for much of the day, with exceptions in the north and around the Strait.
The maximum temperatures will rise in the center and south, with values of 40 degrees in Córdoba and Seville. The heat will exceed 35 degrees in large areas of the southwest, the southern plateau, the Ebro valley, the depressions of the northeast and Mallorca, while the coasts will have more moderate rises.
The afternoon will concentrate the greatest uncertainty in the interior of the eastern third. Storms could hit hard in the Iberian system and the southeastern mountain ranges, where intense rainfall, very strong gusts and hail are not ruled out. The rest of the country will have calmer weather.
Tropical nights and heat map
The AEMET prediction places the highest records in Andalusia and the southern plateau. In addition to the 40 degrees in Córdoba and Seville, Badajoz will reach 38, while Cáceres, Ciudad Real, Granada, Jaén and Toledo will reach 38 or stay close to that figure. The interior of the peninsula will concentrate the most demanding maxims on Wednesday.
Madrid and Guadalajara will reach 36 degreesAlbacete will score 36 and Zaragoza and Girona will reach 35. Teruel will also move at that level. In the north, the thermometer will offer a clear contrast: León will have 30 degrees, Burgos 32 and A Coruña, Donostia/San Sebastián and Santander will remain at 24. The AEMET predicts that the minimum temperatures will rise slightly or barely change.
Tropical nights, with minimum temperatures of at least 20 degrees, will be repeated on the Mediterranean coasts, the depressions of the northeast and the low areas of Andalusia. Night rest will continue to be conditioned by the heatas occurred in other recent episodes, such as the one related to the proliferation of tropical nights at the end of August.
Clouds, haze and east wind
In the Strait, the coast of Alborán, Ceuta and Melilla, low clouds and some isolated drizzle will appear. There will also be cloudiness in the early hours in several northern regions, with a tendency to open. The AEMET hopes morning fog banks in the norththe interior of the southeast and the Balearic Islands, as well as coastal fogs in the Strait and Alborán.
In the afternoon clouds will grow in the interior of the eastern third, with the risk of strong storms already indicated. The episode adds to a September of high temperatures which the AEMET already contemplated in its monthly forecast, as reflected in this analysis on the heat of September. The haze will affect Alborán, the southeast, the Balearic Islands and the eastern Canary Islands.
The east will blow with moderate intensity in the southeast, the Alborán coast and the Strait, where it may leave very strong gusts. In the interior, weak and variable winds will predominate, with breezes from the Mediterranean, while the Cantabrian will have a weak eastern component. In the Canary Islands, the trade wind may register strong intervals. The Strait will be the most exposed point to the gusts during the day.
