Spotify has begun testing an artificial intelligence assistant that allows control playback and view information via voice or text conversation. The tool is integrated in the mobile app and can be used without leaving the home screen or the content being played.
Users who receive the feature will find new access to ‘Talk to Spotify’ on the home tab and in the player interface. From there you can request music and modify the selection using successive instructions. The company proposes to start with a request like ‘play artists you haven’t heard before’add after ‘includes some Bad Bunny’ and limit the result to your most recent songs or request more upbeat songs.
The conversation also allows execute specific actions on the reproduction. The user can ask to save a song, add it to the queue or follow the artist. Unlike a conventional voice search, the assistant preserves the context of previous requests to adapt the selection as the dialogue progresses.

Another of its functions consists of answer questions about the music that is playing. Spotify uses as examples to check what inspired Dua Lipa’s ‘Radical Optimism’ album, when an album was released or what genre a song belongs to. You can also provide related information and recommend other artists or styles.
The tool also covers audiobooks and podcast and it is possible to ask, for example, what other books an author has written or what programs a guest has participated in. The assistant also accesses the user’s listening history to respond when you first heard a song or what genres you’ve listened to most frequently over the past few weeks.
Spotify had already incorporated several features based on artificial intelligence for Premium users. Spotify DJavailable in Spain, creates personalized sessions based on listening habits, inserts comments and allows you to request music associated with an artist, a genre, a mood or an activity by voice or text.
The platform is also testing in some territories, not in Spain, ‘Prompted Playlist’a tool that generates lists from written descriptions. You can combine user history with current music trends, explain why you included each song, and automatically update the selection every day or week.
The new assistant is being deployed gradually and in beta phase among Premium users over 18 years of age in the United States, Ireland and Sweden. Works in English in applications for Android and iOS. Spotify has not announced when it will arrive in Spain, other countries or free accounts, although it states that it will continue to expand and improve the experience based on the feedback received during testing.
