The most famous hedgehog on the planet already has a date for his next adventure. ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 4‘ has officially confirmed when it will hit theaters, and although there is still a long way to go until its release, the news has us all counting the days. As confirmed by Paramount, the new Sonic installment will land on March 19, 2027.
Confirmed date
Although the official release date has been revealed, doubts remain regarding the cast and plot. Of course, we can always get an idea based on the post-credits scenes of ‘Sonic 3’ (but don’t worry, no spoilers). However, what we do know is that Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and the famous Shadow will return to the big screen and with ‘Sonic 3”s box office breaking records (more than $420 million), it’s likely we’ll see even more characters from the SEGA factory. Who else will join the party? Well, that’s something we’ll have to wait a little longer to find out, but based on the latest movie, surprises are guaranteed.
March 19, 2027 seems like a distant future, but if you’re someone who feels anxious (or just loves watching a hedgehog run at full speed), the good thing is that you still have plenty of time to catch up. Have you missed any of the previous movies? No problem, get ready for a Sonic marathon: the first, the second, and of course, Sonic 3 which can still be considered a recent release.
What else does ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 4’ have in store for us?
According to what ‘Sonic 3’ has let us see, it is likely that the producers are ready to continue expanding the adventure saga, with new allies and enemies on the horizon. And of course, let’s not forget Amy Rose, who makes her star appearance with a giant hammer in the post-credits scenes of the last film. Yes, Amy is ready to take action. You can also expect more action moments, crackling dialogues and lots of speed.
The film saga
The first film of the line released in 2020, ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’, directed by Jeff Fowler, marked the hedgehog’s return to cinema after a long period. The film combined live action with CGI, with Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic and Jim Carrey in a featured role as the villainous Dr. Robotnik.
‘Sonic the Hedgehog 2’ further expanded the Sonic universe a couple of years later, with the addition of characters like Tails and Knuckles. The film continued the success of its predecessor, surpassing $405 million at the box office. With ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’ in 2024, the franchise introduces Shadow, played by Keanu Reeves, and expands his story. The saga will continue in 2027 with ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 4’. The truth is that you can expect more adventures, speed and action in the next chapter in theaters of the beloved hedgehog. So, you know, why not take the opportunity to relive the previous three films while we wait?
