He San Juan Bay Estuary Program invited people to participate – joining as volunteers – in the sixteenth edition of Water Quality Dayconsidered the largest citizen science initiative on the island and which will be held this coming Saturday, April 13, within the framework of the entity's 30th anniversary.
“Citizen participation is crucial to achieving the goals of the Estuary. Without the responsible action of each one of us, the effort on the part of the central government and municipalities will be in vain.”said Brenda Torres Barretoexecutive director of the Estuary, in a press release.
“This Water Quality Day exalts the role of the citizen through the evaluation of bodies of water surrounding their homes, schools, and places that they frequent and admire,” he added, after urging people to register for the Estuary page.
Torres Barreto indicated that, in this event, Puerto Rico joins the World Water Quality Monitoring Daya global effort where more than 8,000 bodies of water are monitored across all continents.
He explained that, by joining as volunteers, Citizens will identify the body of water to be monitored close to their homes – such as rivers, lakes and estuaries –, they will have the necessary equipment for monitoring and will communicate the results through virtual platforms.with the support of the Estuary.
