After several days marked by a suffocating heat that has made the Spaniards sweat, there is finally a certain relief thanks to a moderate decrease in temperatures. However, this does not mean that we can relax. The State Meteorology Agency (Aemet) He has already warned about an important change in weather conditions: There is a new episode of rain and storms that could significantly alter the climate panorama in several areas of the country.
The maximums, which have recently overcome the 34-36 degrees in places like Badajoz, northern Andalusia or the Canary Islands, now begin to moderate. This Tuesday, the Thermal descent is more evident in the southern peninsular, the sea of Alborán and Mallorcawith an outstanding descent especially on the Costa del Sol and in interior areas of Southeast. A relief that, although welcome, does not mean the end of extreme heat alerts. In fact, Badajoz, with its 39ºC, and several Canary Islands —Gran Canaria, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro and Tenerife – continue under meteorological notice.
Night temperatures have also offered some respite, especially in the peninsular interior and in Majorcawhere the minimums have begun to go down. Even so, in areas such as the Southeast coast and the Guadiana basin, the thermometers still do not get off the 25 degreescomplicating nighttime rest for many.
However, the highlight is not this thermal truce, but what is anticipated for the next few days. Although this Tuesday will predominate the anticyclonic influence, with skies mostly clear in much of the national territory, some instability begins to glimpse. The peninsular north unchecks the rest, with the presence of low clouds and rains, especially persistent in the Eastern Cantabrian.
Likewise, isolated showers and cloudiness of evolution in the Balearic Islands, the northeast and the southeast peninsular are foreseen. Some of these episodes may have remarkable intensity, such as those registered this morning in eastern Catalonia or in the vicinity of Cabo de la Nao. Even possible dry storms are contemplated inside the southeast in the afternoon – a phenomenon that does not bring rain, but abundant electrical activity.
Aemet on the time that arrives in Spain
Aemet makes it clear: Time will tend to complicate as the week progresses. Although between today and Thursday it is possible that there are weak rains in the north and rainfall in the Catalan coast and the Balearic Islands, it will be Friday when the real turning point arrives. That day, the stormy showers inside the Peninsula are expected to return with force, thus breaking the stability that has dominated in recent days.
In general, temperatures will remain within the usual for the time of year, but it will be the rains and storms that monopolize the prominence in this new phase of summer.
On the other hand, according to the new Map of light pollution in Cataloniathe most affected areas continue to be coastal areas and urban nuclei, where the artificial light concentration reaches its highest levels.
