Interior prohibits national police officers from wearing the Algeciras Gold Medal on their uniforms

The national police of Algeciras They will not be able to wear the Gold Medal on their uniforms granted by the city council of this municipality. What’s more, despite appearing in their files, will not compute. This has been communicated by the Personnel Division to the decorated agents who do not understand why they are denied this right.

“It sounds like a tantrum or revenge,” they say from the National Police Confederation (CEP), which has already sent a letter to the president of the Police Council. And this problem, which affects all the colleagues who have passed through the Algeciras Local Police Station since 2008, has no signs of being resolved. At least for now, since, although In the summer, the council approved a motion so that the agents had their corresponding certificate and could process their requests, Interior has denied it.

In fact, they have only agreed to record it in their file but with a very significant nuance: it cannot be displayed on the uniform and not on a scale. According to the document sent by the union, in June of this same year, the Local Government Board of the Algeciras City Council made the decision to “approve the authorization extension proposal of the use of the City Medal to all agents and commanders of the National Police Corps who at some point in their professional career, and from 2008 onwards, have served in the Algeciras Local Police Station.” A decision that was unanimously ratified in the next plenary session.

Document from the Government Board of Algeciras approving the use of the City’s Gold MedalThe reason

In this way, the union emphasizes that the Interior obstacles represent a “total boycott”, not only of the agents but of Algeciras and its neighbors: “They don’t deserve this treatment.” Because the story goes back 16 years. In 2008, this Cadiz town council awarded the Gold Medal to the Local Police Station. Twelve years later, in 2020, he decided to grant that same decoration to each and every one of the colleagues assigned to that staff, including the student police officers. And this year it was decided to extend the authorization to display the medal to any agent who had worked there since 2008. “Many police officers had already obtained the corresponding certification from the general secretary of that City Council, but when processing it with Personal, the surprise, by denying them their display in the uniform,” denounces the CEP.

“Contempt” for the national police of Algeciras

On each and every one of these occasions, It was approved unanimously. However, this union is clear that “if it is not for one thing, it will be for another.” Because, in his opinion, “the case is prevent the colleagues who have played the trick in the streets of Algeciras these years have a more than well-deserved professional recognition.” And although they are clear that they will cling to any excuse to justify this rejection, since they always “create obstacles and never provide solutions”, the reality is that They “despise” the agents once again. “Another one from the Personnel Division…”, the union says ironically.

At this point, they recall in their letter to the Police Council that INT Order 430/2014, of March 10, which regulates uniformity in their Corporation, establishes in its article 30 that “the officials of the National Police Corps Police They may display the decorations that have been awarded to them individually. by entities or organizations of the Spanish State and foreign states, after proof of the granting title in the personal file”.

For all these reasons, they demand to know why the formula is included in the files of these agents: “No display in uniform/no barema.” Thus, they request that this letter be transferred to the Personnel Division to obtain information from it.”the reason why the exhibition is not being allowed in the uniformity of the Gold Medal of the city of Algeciras”, taking into account the considerations made and the connection of this staff and the units deployed to it in the fight against organized crime.
