If you plan to buy a mobile or a tablet after the next June 20you will find a surprise. It is from that date when these devices must include An energy rating label with relevant information for the consumer, in application of the Delegate Regulation (EU) 2023/1669 of the European Commission. It is similar to those that have incorporated appliances for years, but with some peculiarities.
This labeling adds to relatively recent modifications such as the extension of The guarantee of the devices at 3 years or that manufacturers are obliged to maintain the existence of repair pieces and adequate technical service for 10 years from the date on which the product stops manufacturing.
The new label, in addition to energy rating, includes Other aspects of interest for any usersuch as battery life, fall resistance, the degree of repair or the resistance to particle and humidity penetration.
This is the new energy labeling of smartphones and tablets
Next, we break down the 11 elements of the new energy label:
- YO: The QR code located in the upper right corner of the label allows access to a website with the technical information of the device.
- II: The trade brand of the phone or tablet.
- III: The concrete device model.
- IV: The heart of the matter, the energy efficiency scale in which class A offers the greatest efficiency and G la the youngest.
- V: The degree of energy efficiency that corresponds to the device, according to the anterior scale.
- VI: Probably, the aspect in which the consumer is going to be set. Indicates the hours and minutes of operation that the device has ahead with the battery full loaded. This index is measured through performance in usual uses such as calls, messages, data use, videos or game reproduction.
- VII: Another aspect of particular interest to the buyer is the resistance of the device to falls and blows. Durability is evaluated on a scale of letter A to E, being the first the maximum resistance and the last the minimum. This last degree implies that the mobile must be able to endure, without a cover or screen protector, 45 falls. The tablets are exempt from this qualification, since the form factor makes them less prone to beating against the ground.
- VIII: This repair index seeks to maximize the useful life of the devices with a scale that goes from the letter A to the E; Again, meaning the greatest repair and the minor. Aspects such as disassembly, types of fixing elements, the type of tools you need, the necessary replacement parts or the duration of software updates are taken into account.
- IX: Again referring to the battery, explaining here the number of load cycles that can be supported before degrading below 80 % of the original capacity.
- X: The protection index against particle and moisture penetration, the well -known IPXX.
- XI: The EU regulations that apply to the energy label.
