Hispanicity (i)

We could have waited for October 12, race day, or closest date, to write this article. However, we anticipate a few days, because precisely today, at the Institute of Spain – which is the holding of the ten main academies of our country -, it is closed today, by the president of the day, the lawyer Prof. Luis Cazorla, the course on Hispanidity yesterday and today, a venture of the historical society of the Americas, the Pacific and Spain (Shape), of which we are directors Christian writes.

With the purpose of analyzing what was the Spanish hemisphere of the Treaty of Tordesillas, 1494, when Castilla and Portugal distributed the world in two halves. Corresponding to Spain the half unknown by the Europeans throughout the planet: the American continent and the immense Pacific Ocean.

In this course on Hispanicity, a series of Spanish scholars of the extraordinary adventure of the fifteenth to nineteenth centuries have intervened from a Hispanic monarchy that lasted four centuries, nothing less, without today the vast majority knowing much of that Hispanicity that is manifested in the 600 million Spanish speakers, second language of the world, after Mandarin, in terms of speakers. And only behind English in the manifestations of the Internet and the digital economy, as well as artificial intelligence. All that and much more is specified in my book half of the world that was from Spain (Espasa).

We have had almost a hundred students in this course, and we have been able to appreciate the enormous interest that young people have to open their eyes to the history of Hispanity, the most universal and splendid part of the history of Iberia, with about twenty countries, in alphabetical order, from Argentina to Venezuela in four continents.

We will continue next week.
