“You have to work with discretion, so that the agreement is good, not quick”. Alberto Núñez Feijóo wanted to reach the month of April with a sealed pact with Vox to unblock Extremadura. But her team is beginning to assume that the birth will be post-mature.
At least, it remains in the gestation phase. Because shortly before the elections in Castilla y León, the Genoa leadership came to fear an abortion that would lead to a repeat election. Hence Feijóo’s decision to take a seat in the negotiations.
These days, the PP dedicates all its efforts to trying to appease a Santiago Abascal who sees the hand of Feijóo in the rebellion of his critics and in all the information that is published about the corporate framework that gravitates around him. But the popular leader, as LA RAZÓN published this Monday, has demanded restraint from his people. “We do our thing and without getting into provocations”he transmitted to them in an internal chat.
Sources around him add: «We have not fired Antelo. “We are not going to dedicate ourselves to amplifying the problems of who we want to be our partner.” A point on which they place special emphasis: “How can we want to demonize Vox when we have the obligation to make an agreement with them?” The argument is that if scandals from the Green Party come to light, the PP would not celebrate them, which, collaterally, would be harmed.
This Monday, at a press conference, the deputy secretary of Institutional Regeneration, Cuca Gamarrawas direct: «We are focused on talking with Vox, not about Vox. And neither from our conversations with Vox.
Feijóo’s lieutenants respond to Abascal’s criticism: “We are going to oppose Sánchez. Not to Vox. We are not going to frustrate the center-right electorate. Feijóo’s objective is to finish off Sánchez, not Abascal.
That said, the PP refuses to give any details of how the talks are going so that Maria Guardiolawho won the elections at Christmas and is still in office come spring, can finally carry out his investiture.
According to various sources close to Vox in Extremadura, the negotiation is not taking off not so much because of the distribution of “chairs” but because of the difficulties that the party is encountering in its particular casting.
Vox casting
The possible candidates that Vox has tested do not forget the precedent of the previous coalition: with a female advisor, Limia Roadwho left office fed up with the “discrepancies” with Abascal’s entourage and the outcome with his successor, Ignacio Higueror, who decided to continue despite the “scare” of the regional governments in the summer of 2024. Later, some academic data ended up being leaked due to which he had to resign. There are those who have no doubt that the information came from friendly fire.
«No one inside measures up. And to those who approach from Vox, the answer is the same: they tell them that they are not going to leave the position they have for “that at the first whistle from Abascal they have to leave the government,” The aforementioned sources tell LA RAZÓN, who assure that at least two people “from civil society”, not from the party, have already declined the offer to be part of Guardiola’s government.
The popular ones neither confirm nor deny this point. “If Vox is already calling profiles, we don’t know.” What they do assure is that “the issue of distribution” has not yet been addressed in the negotiations. What’s more, “there hasn’t even been a firm offer” of what the government would look like. It was Feijóo who revealed that Abascal asked for the vice presidency and up to three council positions.
