Pedro Sanchez decided to return the lost prominence to the economy with the appointment of Carlos Body as his first vice president. Yesterday, football style, a social media video was recorded in which he appeared dressed in a National Team t-shirt (on top of a shirt) to celebrate the number of 22 million Social Security affiliates.
The Popular Party picks up the gauntlet. He wants to play the game and if now the grass is the numbers, he has his own marker: the collection, which once again sets a new record. Above all, due to the consecutive increases in taxes associated with work.
«You pay more, you receive less. Against the fiscal hell of the Sánchez Government». It is the leitmotiv of the event that, according to party sources to LA RAZÓN, will star Alberto Núñez Feijóo in Madrid next Wednesday, the same day that a new tax return campaign begins.
The president of the PP will surround himself with “people outside the party”, workers, fundamentally, who will testify to their experience with the treasury. The idea is to “claim the return of purchasing power to the middle classes.”
That Sánchez boasts of a historic number of workers contributing in Spain, Feijóo contrasts it with a not so triumphalist reality: these workers pay more taxes than ever and have less economic capacity than ever. Furthermore, the PP believes, there is an evident decline in the quality of public services.
«The Government has not updated the personal income tax rate and has raised the rest of the taxes, thus deteriorating people’s lives. The reality is that Spaniards increasingly pay more and receive less.describe party sources.
Very different from the Government’s bell ringing speech, in the PP they regret that “productivity in Spain continues to fall” and our country is “at the tail end of public investment.”
To the indicators that Sánchez boasts so much about, the popular ones reply: “Our country continues to be at the top of all European unemployment indices, the shopping basket has a cumulative increase of more than 43%, housing 53% and the collection in 2025 has reached historical figures without the Spaniards noticing it in public services.”
To prevent Sánchez’s more optimistic speech from reaching the electorate, the PP wants to amplify the problems that afflict citizens. Criticisms balanced with proposals. “The PP will not stop demanding that the Government return purchasing power to Spaniards and, especially, to families with children.”
Tax cuts as a solution. In his event tomorrow, Feijóo will begin a “offensive in favor of lower taxes.” The same day that many Spaniards, with more panic than anything else, take out their calculator.
This Monday, the face that the PP chose for the first press conference after Easter was Juan Bravo, deputy secretary of the Treasury. As he explained, «income tax collection» has skyrocketed since Sánchez arrived at Moncloa. From 82,855 million in 2018 to 142,466 million in 2025. Which represents 72% more.
Where is the money?
But, he criticized, “the Spaniards get worse services in return.” An “alarming” deterioration of infrastructure and a loss of the welfare state. To which he asked the following question: «Where is the money?
Regarding the next income campaign, Bravo warned that it will represent “the highest collection ever made in Spain” and promised that his party will do just the opposite when it comes to power. “We will return to the Spaniards what Sánchez has overpaid.” The popular ones want to delve deeper into the tax debate. They are convinced that it is a weak flank of the Government in which they have a lot to gain.
Its star recipe will remain the same: deflate the personal income tax rate. “It means not charging more for inflation.” To Sánchez’s triumphalist words, the PP insists: «Absolute record of collection, but also of incompetence and indifference towards the problems». In this regard, Bravo linked taxation with the great problem that Spanish society suffers from: access to housing.
Another battlefield in which the popular ones see a deep wear and tear on the Government. Throughout Sánchez’s tenure at the head of Spain, Bravo recalled, housing prices have skyrocketed by 61% for purchases and 51% for rentals. A “lack of control” that affects the pockets of millions of Spaniards.
«We do have a plan because housing is our priority and we will implement it the first day in the Government,” was the second promise. Although the week will be marked by corruption, the PP does not shy away from the economic fight.
