There is a psychological factor that seems to often affect those who consider switching to an electric car, it is known as range anxiety, in Spanish autonomy anxiety, and it expresses doubts about whether the vehicle’s battery will last until the next charging point and would be more suitable for long journeys than for those in the city.
Well, one way to check for yourself whether that perception fits reality or not could be to do a test. For example, a small tourist route, without rushing and in which you can enjoy a landscape, a country walk, a monument and, why not, a delicious meal. By electric car, of course, and it could even be rented.
That is the possibility offered by the Guide to electric getaways two hours from Madrid, prepared by Acciona. Six excursions around the capital to attractive destinations where it is possible to see monuments, visit charming towns, go hiking or learn about local crafts, and, while the car battery is charged at Acciona charging points installed in restaurants near those places of interest, eat, have breakfast or have a soft drink. Thus, and simultaneously, the batteries of the car and those of the senses are charged.
Marta de Eusebio, head of the Recharging Business at Acciona Energía, explains that “it is a proposal that mixes top-class gastronomic restaurants, located both on main roads and on secondary roads, in large and also very small towns, and all close to monuments, valuable natural environments, including a national park, or charming towns.”
Although, formally it is a tourism proposal, it is also a response to a context: that “electric mobility is not going to arrive, it is already a consolidated reality,” says De Eusebio. “With this initiative, he adds, what it is about is giving visibility to this network and helping to dismantle the myth that recharging an electric car is very difficult.”
The figures say it: according to data from the National Association of Automobile and Truck Manufacturers (Anfac), the year 2025 closed with a total of sales of 225,616 electrified passenger cars, 94.6% more than the previous year and a share of the general market of 19.6%.
De Eusebio also highlights that “there is already a solid, capillary charging infrastructure that provides service wherever we go, with more than 55,000 points throughout the country, 5,000 of which Acciona has access to, so charging the car on the road is no longer a problem.” What’s more, the person in charge of Recharging at Acciona Energía also highlights the fact that, “along with the breadth of the charger network there is technology, management applications – including ours – that give access to that network, which allows us not only to know where the chargers are, but also their characteristics to combine them with those of the vehicle, reserve them and pay for the recharge. All of this makes it possible to plan trips, routes and improve the user experience.”
Walls, natural spaces, places in La Mancha…
The six proposed routes lead to La Cabrera, (Madrid), Talavera de la Reina (Toledo), Torralba de Calatrava and Manzanares, both in Ciudad Real, Muñogalindo (Ávila), and Villarubio (Cuenca).
What to see in each place? For example, Muñogalindo, Ávila, is a small town that could well be a starting or resting point to visit Ávila and see its walls and churches, explore towns with traditional architecture, or natural landscapes in the Alberche Valley. If you choose Talavera de la Reina, Toledo, famous for its ceramics declared Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO, apart from visiting its workshops and shops, it is worth visiting the old town, visiting the Basilica of Nuestra Señora del Prado and the Prado Gardens. In the case of the province of Ciudad Real, where Acciona has installed two chargers in as many restaurants, the possibilities are the Tablas de Daimiel National Park, La Mancha towns, vineyard fields and windmills. For its part, the Uclés Monastery, with medieval history and monumental architecture, is a good reason to come to Cuenca and explore its natural environments and views. And, in all cases, with delicious local gastronomy guaranteed.
