Coros launches the Apex 4, the most resistant of mountain watches

It is not surprising that Kilian Jornet has opted for a watch like this for his latest challenge. The Catalan has traveled the 72 peaks of more than 14,000 feet (4,267 m) in the United States in 31 days, without using other means of transportation than his legs and a bike. In total, it was 5,145 kilometers long and it has overcome 123,045 meters of positive gradient. In short, as if he had covered the distance between Lisbon and Moscow while ascending Everest 13 times.

With this in mind, Jornet has brought the Apex 4, the latest smart watch from Coros, “on board his wrist”. The device incorporates improvements in battery, navigation precision and specific functions for alpine disciplines.

Its case is made of grade 5 titanium, sapphire crystal and Memory-In-Pixel display optimized for variable lighting conditions. This display technology integrates small memory, such as SRAM, directly into each pixel. This allows them to store their own image data, eliminating the need for constant screen refresh and dramatically reducing power consumption.

To this he adds more efficient navigation software thanks to improved vertical algorithmsdual signal frequency and dual range barometer for complex alpine environments.

The Apex 4 also improves on battery: up to 65 hours with full GPS in the 46mm version (41 hours in the 42mm), and up to 24 and 15 days respectively in daily use.

Taking into account your destination (as remote as possible), the mTopographic and global maps arrive with street and trail names and its rendering is much faster than in previous generations.

Logically, it has specific modes for trail, climbing and ski touring; advanced sleep tracking, recovery and training load. Also includes toPace alerts (in case we run out of legs in the race because we start at a very high pace), voice notes and calls in hands-free mode.

“The COROS APEX 4 has undergone rigorous testing, based on years of experience, athlete feedback and technological advances, to become a world-class watch – says Lewis Wu, CEO and co-founder of Coros -. All decisions related to the APEX 4, From materials to battery life to software, they were made with mountain endurance athletes in mind.”.

Tracking HRV (heart rate variability), SpO2, sleep and training load allows you to get a complete view of training and also recovery. To the sports mentioned we must add hiking, mountain biking, cycling, swimming and more than 30 additional modes of activity. Battery, GPS and resistance, all in reliable mode. What is asked of a watch of this category.
