Connectivity and safety, the keys to the future of electric bicycles

Mobility in cities has changed radically since the introduction of electric bicycles. The ease and comfort offered by the help of a bicycle motor, coupled with the increased social awareness in the fight against climate change and the need to maintain a healthy lifestyle have made electric bicycles (or eBikes) increasingly common on our streets.

For this reason, the Bosch eBikes group organised the presentation of its range of engines for these vehicles in Madrid, which, combined with the digital services developed in parallel, make the experience complete and pleasantly satisfactory.

Bosch has understood electric mobility in the city in a broad sense, which encompasses much more than the motorization of vehicles. Connectivity and safety are two main lines around which the rest of the company’s strategy revolves.

Thanks to this effort, Bosch electrified bicycles have battery optimisation systems, depending on the use to be made. As Laura Sánchez, head of marketing and communication for the Bosch eBikes group, explains, “the goal is to have an eBike for every type of user.”

Connectivity also offers the possibility of personalising the use of the electric bicycle on each occasion, whether for a ride, a sports route or travelling from home to work. This is possible thanks to eBike flow, a mobile application developed by Bosch that allows you to connect to the bicycle and acts as a digital assistant. “The more the application is used, the more it learns about the user, their way of moving, their habits and their physical condition, obtaining the best results in terms of battery consumption and efficiency,” explains Laura Sánchez.

The user’s connection to the bike through the app is key to being able to choose the motor assistance mode (eco, turbo or sport, among others) and thus achieve more complete results. “Among the new motor driving modes, the eco+ mode stands out, which provides an even more natural riding sensation,” says Laura Sánchez.

Safety is the second basic pillar of Bosch. All bicycles with the company’s engines are equipped with a new ABS system, which differentially increases braking efficiency, while balancing the weight so that the rear wheel does not lift off the ground in the event of extreme braking.

In addition, when the bike is connected to the mobile phone application, it also has theft prevention systems, such as immobilization or geolocation.

News 2025

In the coming months, the Bosch eBikes Group plans to launch Range Control, a system that lets you decide how much battery power you want to use to reach your destination, making it easier to plan your routes so you don’t run out of battery.

In addition, for the medium- and long-term future, the company is working on connectivity projects with other vehicles, to reduce, for example, the risks at times such as passing through dangerous blind spots for cars. Thanks to Bosch eBikes’ commitment to putting user enjoyment and safety at the centre of all its activity, the improvements applied and currently being worked on will ensure that the user experience is fully satisfactory.
