The comedians George Brett Olson and Julia Jasunas have reported that accounts of instagram they use women generated with artificial intelligence to reproduce their jokes word for word. These fake comedians accumulate hundreds of thousands of followers and serve as a teaser for OnlyFans pagesalthough its protagonists do not exist.
One of these characters is Tiffany Sloanwhose account began publishing on September 11. According to Kotaku, In about three weeks he had gathered more than 375,000 followers and published 75 videosmainly jokes before a fictional audience. One of them surpassed seven million views in less than two weeks. It is unknown who is behind the character, who also has an OnlyFans account.
On October 3, Olson posted a video on Instagram showing how Sloan told one of his jokes alongside his original performance on which the person creating the AI avatar videos had been based. The setting is the same and Sloan’s outfit is clearly inspired by Olson’s.
‘The AI stole my joke and my clothes. You may be thinking that you have already heard other comedians talk about this, but this is new, very new‘, he denounced. The monologue was precisely about the threat of AI to employment and the complicity of billionaires like Mark Zuckerberg. ‘This is the most ironic thing that has ever happened to me’Olson said.
For his part, Jasunas has shown how another account with 250,000 followers literally copied one of his monologuesincluding an off-the-cuff comment directed at someone in the audience. The British website specialized in comedy Chortle found in that same profile material based on that of other comedians, such as Char Ramtin, Olivia Carter and Hannah Berner.
‘It is extremely disturbing that someone uses AI-generated scantily clad women to tell stolen jokes and make money with views and interactions, and then direct people to an OnlyFans account for even more benefits. And all with a woman who doesn’t even exist!’ Jasunas told Chortle.
Both comedians assure that they have not received support from Meta to solve the problem. ‘The craziest thing is that no conditions of service are being violated here. We are seeing in real time how (those responsible for social networks) say that they are building something that is going to destroy everything, and then we see how they do not protect anyone or anything from what makes us human, the songs, the laughter… Maybe (Meta) should realize that we like the Internet because, deep down, we like each other… And now you are going to flood the internet exponentially with things that are not us‘ says Olson.
The head of Instagram, Adam Mosseriresponded to the controversy with a message on the platform in which he assured that ‘I don’t think it’s viable to try to ban AI content on the platform.. It will become increasingly difficult to identify it and not all of it is bad content, although yes, there is a lot of garbage. But we are very committed to trying to drive more traffic to original content creators, And if an AI creator is copying content in its entirety, it would be good for us to find out what we can do about it. I don’t know what the solution would be, but I’ll make sure to talk to the team and look into it.‘.
