After rising to fame as a co-founding member and leader of the popular group “The Beach Boys”, Mike Love became one of the most characteristic singers in American music. His long career as lead vocalist of the rock band led him to win different awardssuch as the Grammy Award for Artistic Career, awarded to the group in 2001, or the Society of Singers Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014.
However, Mike Love is not only known for his role as a singer and songwriter, but also as activist for environmental conservation. A facet that led him to dedicate part of his assets to the protection of one of the most important natural sites in the state of California, Sierra Nevada, as other figures such as Barbra Streisand and Jack Nicholson did previously.
To understand this fact, we must go back to 1979, when he decided to acquire a land of approximately 10,000 square meters on Lake Tahoeamong the mountains of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, California. The purchase was made for $435,000 and he used the property to build what would be a 1,760-square-meter residence located at 969 Fairview Boulevard.
The couple decided to acquire 2.4 hectares to avoid the construction of homes
According to People magazine, the building was built near the shore of Lake Tahoe, with three floors and enviable views of the nature that surrounds the area. Precisely, it was these views that led the singer and his wife, Jacquelyne Piesen, to acquire another 2.4 hectares nearby in order to protect both its fauna and flora from the possible construction of new homes. To this end, they also decided to contact the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and the University of California Davis.
Lake Tahoe has become one of the main destinations for nature lovers. There, you can see different species such as black, brown and blond bears, coyotes or wild cats. As well as various birds such as the mountain tit, the western tanager or even the native bald eagle. That is why this residence ended up becoming the singer’s main creative space, where he came to compose some of The Beach Boys’ greatest hits.
To this end, the house had its own integrated recording studiowith acoustic soundproofing and all the instruments he needed to let his creativity out. Although this was not the only space in which he was inspired, since the entire interior of the house is characterized by a decoration full of nature and artisanal elements, which are reminiscent of the different philosophical currents that it follows.
The property is for sale for 43 million dollars
The property was also their family home for 40 years. Thanks tos 10 bedrooms, 12 full bathrooms and 3 toiletsboth the singer’s wife and his eight children lived inside, at least until they reached adulthood. During their childhood, they were also able to enjoy the swimming pool and jacuzzi located in the outdoor garden, as well as a children’s play area with a trampoline and a temporary ice skating rink.
However, the luxuries did not keep him from his main mission: protecting Lake Tahoe. According to “People”, the artist was present at the inauguration of the first motorway roundabout that circulates in the vicinity of the lake, which was designed to protect its water and promote safe circulation. Likewise, in 2021, he confessed that the lyrics of his song “Don’t Go Near the Water” talked about the effects of pollution and the importance of protecting nature.
After four decades, in April 2026 he announced that both the land and the home were for sale worth 43 million dollars. A decision they made after their children left the family home, but it does not separate the couple from Lake Tahoe, as they participated in the founding of the local school and have given their support on several occasions to the community hospital.
