Trump calls ‘enemies’ those who continue to use the term ‘artificial intelligence’ instead of ‘superintelligence’

donald trump has raised the tone against those who refuse to abandon the expression ‘artificial intelligence’ and has warned that the White House considers them ‘enemies’. The president of the United States published this Thursday in Social Truth a message stating that “The White House considers anyone who uses ‘artificial intelligence’ instead of the new, more accurate and widely accepted term ‘superintelligence,’ THE ENEMY!”.

The warning comes after Trump signed an executive order titled ‘Inaugurating the Era of Superintelligence’ on September 29. The decree forces the departments and agencies of the US executive branch to replace ‘Artificial Intelligence’ (AI) with ‘Super Intelligence’ (SI) on its web pages, reports, public communications and other official non-legislative documents.

The measure does not require modifying previous contracts, regulations or documents and nor does it impose the new vocabulary on private companies or citizens. In addition, it gives the White House scientific advisor 60 days to propose a legal definition of ‘superintelligence’ and study possible legislative changes, while the Department of Justice has already transferred the instruction to its employees.

Trump maintains that the word ‘artificial’ makes technology seem fake and believes that the new name better reflects its capabilities and future potential. However, in the scientific field ‘superintelligence’ already designates a hypothetical artificial intelligence that would surpass human capabilities.

Among technology entrepreneurs, Elon Musk has been one of the most enthusiastic about the proposal and has written in X ‘No more AI. YES, it’s better. He has also announced that will change the name of SpaceXAISpaceX’s artificial intelligence division emerged from the former xAI and responsible for Grokby SpaceXSI.

Google, Goal, OpenAI and Anthropic they signed that same September 29 a voluntary agreement with the White House on security controls and audits of the most advanced models, but the document does not require them to change the name of the technology. Google and Anthropic have not confirmed plans to adopt the new name, while Meta already had Meta Superintelligence Labs before the executive order.

Sam Altman has supported the use of the term, although it has clarified that OpenAI has no intention of changing its name. Microsoft also uses ‘superintelligence’ to identify one of her lines of research, but neither she nor Apple have announced that they are going to abandon the expression ‘artificial intelligence’.
