According to what he said in an interview for “Radio Cataluña”, when he made the decision, there was no turning back. “I woke up one morning and said: ‘Madrid is over, I’m going back to my people’. And I think it is the wisest decision I have made in recent years. “I’m very into routines, going to the bar in the center, I love meeting everyone… and that’s my town.”
Born on November 14, 1972 in Beirut, Lebanon, his first years of life were marked by the civil war that devastated his country. To try to offer him a better future, his family, of Armenian origin, decided to flee to Spain, a country that offered them all the opportunities that they had been denied there. The place chosen to start his new life was Madrid.
However, it was not the capital that became their new home, but a municipality located 43 kilometers northwest of the big city: Alpedrete. A town with a population of 15,686 inhabitants and located in the heart of the Guadarrama mountain range. “You tell me at 30 years old, when you are building a great life, that you have to leave that Beirut behind because a civil war breaks out and you have to forget everything and get involved with three children in a town in the Sierra de Madrid in ’77…”, he explained in an interview for “El Español.”

Although the town welcomed them with open arms, young Hovik, who arrived when he was only 3 years old, always felt different. However, thanks to the fact that they grew up in a more rural environment and far from the city, they were able to adapt and grow freely in the countryside. A decision made by their father, who took them to live in an apartment complex whose owners only came during the weekends.
Something that he will always thank his parents for, as he stated, “I wouldn’t change anything about my childhood.” Well, they had a freedom when it came to playing that they could not have enjoyed if they had lived in a more bustling environment such as the center of Madrid. “I was leaving school, I threw away my backpack and I knew that I couldn’t leave the urbanization.
