mild maximum temperatures, with 16.7ºC in Seville, and rain for several days

Holy Week usually has a meteorological scenario characterized by mild maximums, cold minimums – especially in the interior -, and rain for several days, as Eltiempo.es noted this Wednesday. In this framework, Seville has the highest average peninsular temperature for the date: 16.7ºC; and Almería the most extreme case of lack of rain.

To reach this conclusion, the meteorological portal has analyzed the climatological records for the period 1991-2020 corresponding to the week of March 28 to April 6l, dates on which Easter will fall this year. This period is the one usually used to find out if a climatic data ‘falls within normal’.

In this way, Eltiempo.es has explained thatThe atmosphere for those dates is usually still cool in many areas, especially in the interior of the peninsula.where the lowest values occur. And although spring has already begun, early mornings can still be very cold in some inland areas. “A clear example is Molina de Aragón, where the average minimum is around 0.7ºC“, he indicated.

The cities where it is hottest

At the other end of the scale, the highs on those dates tend to be softer. In fact, they tend to fall between 16ºC and 18ºC even in inland cities such as Madrid, Cuenca, Teruel or Valladolid. Outside the interior, the highest temperatures are recorded in the south and east of the peninsula, as well as in the Canary Islands.

In Seville, the maximum temperatures usually reach 23ºCwhile the minimum temperatures rarely drop below 10ºC. According to the meteorological portal, something similar happens in Murcia, where the maximum temperatures are around 23ºC and the minimum temperatures remain slightly below 10ºC. For its part, in the Canary Islands the average reaches 19ºC. In fact, in Lanzarote it stands at 19.4ºC, with maximums close to 23ºC and minimums around 15ºC.

Rains during Holy Week

Regarding rain, Eltiempo.es has reported that the datas “show a fairly clear reality: it is very common for it to rain at some point during Holy Week”. “In almost the entire country, rainfall appears between 70% and 80% of the years in this period,” he specified.

By zones, the percentage even reaches 100% in northern areas. However, the frequency is somewhat lower in the southeast of the peninsula. It usually rains there between 50% and 70% of the years, a situation similar to that observed in the Canary Islands. Even so, the meteorological portal has specified that the fact that it rains for many years does not necessarily mean that it does so for many days.

Furthermore, he has pointed out that The most extreme case due to a lack of rainy days is in Almeríawhere it only rains one in ten days, although precipitation appears in six out of ten years during these dates.
