Alexis Valdes returns to Puerto Rico with “Artificial Ignorance”a show that combines humor, music and reflection about the technology and the future that holds for the human species as times advance.
In interview with The New Daythe Cuban comedian announced what inspired this new show and what the public can expect from his presentation in the Luis A. Ferré Fine Arts Center this next February 15.
“It all started with a monologue that I wrote about the fight with passwords… and my head “He started to think about the danger that human beings are turning technology into a kind of new god, which is the one in charge and not us anymore.”he lamented.
This concern led him to delve deeper into how technological dependency impacts the way we think and relate to each other today.
“People no longer learn, they no longer memorize, the GPT (Chat) tells you everything”he highlighted.
The artist has always demonstrated his mastery of oratory and the inclusion of his creative musical proposal, skills with which Valdés will carry an updated and realistic message, combining two contradictions: intelligence and ignorance in a unique and irreverent way that invites both laughter and reflection.
“Artificial Ignorance” has already presented 46 functions, all sold outin cities like Zurich, Geneva, Madrid, Barcelona, Canary Islands, Tenerife, Miami, Orlando, Tampa and now, Puerto Rico.
“The show has several parts: there is one about new nutrition, the world of passwords, which people die of laughing because they have suffered it, and about human relationships in these times we live in. You are going to laugh.”
Beyond humor—which is sorely lacking, as he emphasized—the comedian always seeks for the audience to connect with a much deeper message.
What do you hope Puerto Rico takes away from this show? this newspaper asked.
“I hope that people come out, that they laugh a lot and that, at the same time, they come away connected with that underlying message that the story has”he advanced. “With that minimal desire of: I’m going to review and question what I do and how I can not lose my humanity. Have more time for real conversation, looking into the eyes with the people I love, those things.”
Finally, Valdés shared his greatest concern about the future of society.
“What do I fear will happen in the future? We have advanced technologically, but not ethically. We have the most advanced devices, but we continue killing, we continue throwing bombs, we continue being enemies of the other and trying to destroy and dominate them. So, what or who are going to have enough ethics to say: ‘We can’t go from here’ even though (that) is what produces the most money…”he concluded.
Tickets are on sale through Ticketcenter and at the box office of the Santurce Fine Arts Center.
