The return of Juan Carlos Monedero to the Complutense University has distorted the peaceful ecosystem of the Somosaguas Campus. LA RAZÓN has learned that its new students have submitted writings to express their rejection of the return to teaching of the founder of Podemos, who was suspended for six months of employment and salary until his file for the sexual harassment complaint was resolved.
For weeks now, the former Podemos leader has been teaching Comparative Politics, a subject that is part of the second year of International Relations. As LA RAZÓN has learned, Monedero has been assigned as the teacher number two of the subject and shares the teaching work with another teacher.
However, sources from Political Science and Sociology explain to LA RAZÓN that The founder of Podemos has served a six-month suspension of employment and salary. Monedero has returned to activity although he has not yet been assigned a specific subject as in previous years.
These sources explain that the Complutense plans to rule and resolver before the second semester begins the situation of the file opened against the former leader of the Pablo Iglesias formation. They have set the month of January as the deadline since Monedero has two subjects assigned in that period and they have to decide whether they will teach them or not.
At first, the students received with “stupor” the new landing of the founder of Pablo Iglesias’ party since they considered that he was totally “out of place” for the accusations that were made public against him. This discomfort has ended up being formalized since a large group of university students consider that, at least for the moment, he should not work as a teacher.
The students’ writings
The students of Comparative Politics They have sent letters to those responsible for the area to inform them that they are not satisfied with the Monedero classes and have demanded a change of teacher. The rejection of the figure of Monedero in the Complutense is widespread although no one wants to make it public for fear of reprisals.
It is not only university students who have been disagreeing with the founder of Podemos for years and many of their fellow teachers do not approve of his attitudes. Several of them subscribe point by point to the comments and humiliation towards women that appear in the complaint filed by a student for sexual harassment on January 10.
However, they do this support discreetly. Another reason is that they know first-hand that Monedero still has important support at the Complutense, where he has been a professor for decades. “It always comes out swimmingly no matter what”tells LA RAZÓN a source from the university community that censures his return to classes.
One of the points that teachers and students point out most is that the outbreak of the Monedero case caused months of tranquility on the Somosaguas campus. He Department of Political Science and Administration He seemed calm while the confidential file that he had open was moving forward in a hermetic manner.
The beginning of the course also helped to maintain this “ecosystem” since there was no trace of the founder of Podemos. However, his landing in these classes caused a new “university alarm” for the speed and normality that was given to the situation.
The deregistration of the Wallet
Monedero has been a professor at the Faculty of Political Science since 1992. When it became public in February that he had opened a file of “confidential reserved information due to a complaint from a student,” his status changed because he himself requested his leave from work.
The Complutense even issued a statement in which it recognized the “logical concern existing among the students.” In that same text he announced that the founder of Podemos was not going to teach “until further notice” the classes of “Contemporary Political Theory” in the Double Degree of Law and Political Science and “Theory and Practice of Democracies” in the Degree in International Relations.

This “worry” has persisted and increased with the return of the teacher. Although it is true that he does not exercise his role as second tutor in the classes he commanded, he has generated anger among the students. These young people hope that the Complutense will reconsider and expedite the open file to clarify responsibilities or to prevent, for the moment, Monedero from returning to Somosaguas.
The Prosecutor’s path in this case is totally closed. The Public Ministry studied the procedure, which was forwarded by the university, and indicated that they were not facts consistent with a criminal offense. This decision transferred the power back to the Complutense, which more than ten months later has still not taken a measure on Monedero.
