“Nothing can be proposed outside of legality”

The second senator of the Popular Party, Javier Arenas was caught last Tuesday smoking a vape in his seat in the chamber during the Plenary Session of the Upper Houseas reported yesterday by Europa Press. It happened at 5:30 p.m. in the Government control session in the Senate, coinciding with the moment in which Enrique Ruiz Escudero, senator of the popular parties, was asking Minister Mónica García a question.

At the same time that García was offering his response, A camera captured Javier Arenas behind her, who was taking an electronic cigarette out of his pocket to later inhale it.. So that no one could see him, he smoked, completely covering the cigarette so that they could not see how he expelled the smoke.

Javier Arenas completely denies that he was smoking in the Senate

A colleague from the party realized that there was a camera focused on him, so she warned him about it and Arenas quickly hid the vape in his pocket. “It is a bad gesture to the Minister of Health. I forgive her, but listen to your PP colleague in leaving it. You can consult with your primary care doctor”Mónica García published on her X account hours later.

When asked in the halls of the Senate, The ‘number two’ of the PP totally denied that he was smoking during the plenary session. He repeatedly stated that “under no circumstances”carried out what he was being accused of. However, he also stated that he has to see the images.

“Separatism only brings economic ruin and poverty to Catalan society”

Leaving aside the news of Javier Arenas, it is worth highlighting some statements he offered about the political situation in Catalonia in 2015. The one who was deputy secretary of Autonomous and Local Policy of the PP, focused the focus on the independence movement and expressed that his proposals could only bring problems to society.

“Separatism only brings economic ruin and poverty to Catalan society”began. On the other hand, he commented that the Popular Party defended “with great pride and without complexes the unity of Spain” and the triple relationship that all Catalans maintain was guaranteed, which is to be “Catalans, Spaniards and Europeans.”

Continuing to talk about his party’s program, Arenas endorsed that the popular ones have “state, is and will be at the political center, in moderation. We are here to guarantee the same rights and obligations for all Spaniards wherever they live, who have opportunities wherever they live”. After all this, he began to talk, again, about Catalonia.

“Catalans must maintain common projects together with Spain”

For him, the Catalans should take the role of unity, as he had expressed before. Basically, as if they were a soccer team in which everyone rows to achieve victory. “The future of the citizens of Catalonia depends on continuing to maintain common projects throughout Spain and respecting legality”he pointed out.

In this sense, the Constitution served as a great example that ensures “coexistence, harmony and respect for each of the territories of Spain”. Therefore, he insisted that “Nothing can be proposed outside of the law”opting rather for “compliance with the laws”.

Finally, so that what he wanted to convey was clear, he exemplified the PP as what should be done. From the Popular Party, it defends “freedom and that it does not accept that territories are above people. The unity of Spain is defended with great pride and without complexes and we fight so that we Spaniards have the same rights and obligations wherever we live”he concluded.
