A Norwegian citizen filed a lawsuit after he discovered that Chatgptthe chatbot developed by OpenAIHe was wrongly accused of killing two of his children.
The incident was made public when Arve Hjalmar Holmen, the affected, was informed about the false accusation generated by the artificial intelligence.
“What gives me the most is that someone can read that and think that it is true,” said Holmen in a statement, who is represented by the Austrian Association Noyb, an organization that advocates the protection of privacy.
The complaint is based on the allegation that AI provided completely incorrect information, which could seriously harm the reputation of a person without justification.
From the incident, Openai, the creator of Chatgpt, updated its model to prevent the error from being repeated and no longer presents Holmen as a criminal. However, Noyb has expressed concern that erroneous information can continue stored in the company’s internal systems.
For its part, the NGO criticized that “Chatgpt regularly gives false information (…) that can seriously damage a person’s reputation, falsely accusing people of corruption, child abuse or even murder.”
In addition, Noyb denounced that “by knowing that his model of AI creates defamatory results, Openai violates the principle of accuracy” established in the General European Data Protection Regulation (RGPD). In this sense, the organization asks that incorrect data be eliminated, technology is improved and “an administrative fine” is imposed.
The launch of Chatgpt in late 2022 marked a milestone in the democratization of artificial intelligence, but now faces a question about its precision and the possible damage that may cause by disseminating incorrect information.
“Uncomfortable truths” about chatgpt
A young ‘influencer’ on the social network Tiktok He went viral by demonstrating how artificial intelligence is able to discover hidden aspects of personality.
The @MimiworkBestie user shared a video in which she showed how Chatgpt used to explore “uncomfortable truths” about herself, a task that initially considered unlikely. However, the response obtained from artificial intelligence left her surprised and led her to unexpected reflection.
The young woman revealed that the starting point for this exercise was to ask Chatgpt a specific question: “What do you know about me that perhaps I don’t know about me, based on all our past interactions?”. With this consultation, the system had access to its previous conversations, allowing you to analyze the interactions and extract details about your personality, preferences and possible internal dilemmas.
The answer he received described Mimi as “an ambitious person with a strong connection to your personal and professional freedom.” This detailed and precise analysis of its way of being and its values impacted it deeply. In this regard, Mimi commented that the result was “quite heavy”, reflecting how surprising it was for her to receive such an exact description of her life and personal beliefs.
Reaction in the networks
Mimi’s video quickly went viral, reaching 27,000 “like” in a few days and generating thousands of comments. The users’ responses were diverse. Some shared similar experiences, while others were skeptical to the power of AI.
