Mobile World Capital Barcelona creates awards to promote “sustainable digital transformation”

Mobile World Capital Barcelona has created the MWCapital Awards to promote a “sustainable digital transformation”, with the collaboration of GSMA Foundry and B Lab Spain, it reports in a statement this Wednesday.

They will recognize six projects in a special distinction and five categories: companies; small businesses and startups; common benefit and interest companies (SBIC); academia and research centers, and public institutions.

As for the special distinction, called the Barcelona Horizon Award, it will go to the “project with the greatest potential to promote sustainability within Barcelona’s digital ecosystem” and will include a subsidy of 50,000 euros.

The awards will be presented at a ceremony scheduled for June 2025 in the Catalan capital, and the winners will be able to show their initiatives at the Mobile World Congress Barcelona 2026.

Candidates must have been operational for 12 months, show “measurable results” in advancing sustainability through technology, and be aligned with ESG principles.

After submitting your application by March 18, an external international jury made up of “prominent personalities” in sustainability and innovation will select 15 finalists, who will opt for personalized workshops to improve their impact, before the winners are selected.

The CEO of Mobile World Capital Barcelona, ​​Francesc Fajula, has trusted in “a future in which digital innovation and sustainability are intrinsically linked.”

The director of GSMA Foundry, Richard Cockle, has assured that “there is a lot of work to do before the 2030 deadline” in the mobile industry and has predicted that the MWCapital Awards will play a fundamental role in the industry’s efforts.

The executive director of B Lab Spain, Belén Viloria, has advocated that companies “not only innovate, but also integrate sustainability” into their business strategies.
